IVF treatment
Israel performs more than 20,000 IVF treatments per year, making Israel the country with the highest number of IVF treatments worldly. Out of the 10-15% of couples that seek IVF treatment, Israel has success rates above average, when compared to other leading countries in the field of IVF treatment.
The latest IVF treatment is called “Micromanipulation” which includes the most innovative technologies in IVF treatment, allowing greater accuracy in IVF procedure and therefore better success rates. In the next section we will discuss the different Micromanipulation procedures.
IVF procedure
IVF procedure involves several steps. First, controlling the ovulation process by hormones, then extracting eggs from the woman, and finally, allowing for the sperm to fertilize the egg. The fertilization process takes place outside the body, inside a petri dish or a test tube, therefore, called In Vitro (“in glass”) Fertilization or IVF.
With Micromanipulation IVF procedures, you can keep the embryo in a petri dish for up to six days. After the first day of IVF procedure, you can already see a female and a male nucleus, which are surrounded by a transparent envelope. By the third day of IVF, it is possible to check for genetic disorders using one or two embryonic fertilized cells, which are duplicates of the original fertilized egg. Israel has the most innovative IVF procedures which give you the option of going through a genetic “search” in the fertilized embryo. This is done by perforation of the transparent envelop through acid or laser technology, followed by suction of up to two cells. Through this technology you can check for genetic diseases like Cystic fibrosis, Central Nervous system genetic disorders, Down syndrome and so on. It is essential to return the embryo to the mother's womb by the sixth day because that is when the embryo hatches through the transparent envelope.
Another Micromanipulation IVF procedure is Assisted Hatching. This IVF procedure uses the same technology as mentioned above: the rupture of the transparent envelope in order to help the embryo hatch through the envelope. This IVF procedure is used in cases where the envelope is too hard for the embryo to break, like for example in older women going through an IVF treatment.
The main and most dangerous complication in IVF treatment is over stimulation of the ovaries. This can endanger the woman's health and even cause death. This complication can be avoided with correct use of the medications prescribed for stimulation of the ovaries. Israel has an excellent reputation worldwide, and with the largest amounts of IVF treatments per year, the Israeli staff has gained great expertise in IVF treatment. This is reflected in the low complication rate.
IVF cost
Israel is one of the leading countries in IVF treatment, including state of the art facilities with well trained experts in the field of IVF. The total costs for an IVF treatment in Israel are relatively low.
The average IVF cost in the United States is about 12,000USD. This includes a single IVF treatment and nothing more. In India this same single IVF treatment costs about one quarter of that twelve thousand. In Israel, the average cost is comparable to India or even less, and the success rate is extremely high.
It is known that most couples will have to undergo at least two IVF procedures, doubling the costs. This causes economical burden and emotional strain, which can have a negative influence on the results of the IVF treatment. Therefore, it is important to explore all available options, having in mind that, in order to reduce total IVF costs, an IVF procedure should be made by well experienced personnel.
IVF success rate
Some women can undergo more than 30 IVF treatments before delivering their first child. Research shows that after undergoing more than 15 treatments, the IVF success rates decline.
